1. Herman Miller Embody – Best Ergonomic Chair
The Embody from the Herman Miller brand is my best choice for several reasons. I know that Herman Miller is a trustworthy brand with decades of experience in creating top of the line furniture. Created by famous designers: Bill Stumpf and Jeff Weber who conducted research and consulted with professionals in various fields such as physical therapy, ergonomics, and biomechanics.
My first experience on the Embody was a few years ago when I wanted to buy an ergonomic desk chair for my office. Once I fiddled with all the settings, I found that my chronic backache was so diminished, to the point that I could be more productive.
After a few years of therapy and using the Embody, my back pain was entirely gone. A decade later, my Embody is still going strong.
Here’s why I think this one of the best office chairs available right now (Key Features):
[mks_icon icon=”fa-check” color=”#56b370″ type=”fa”]The Embody is very supportive. The chair is designed with three support zones for your upper body, sitting area, and hamstrings. As such, your pelvis doesn’t rotate inwards but is aligned with your spine. The Embody doesn’t dig into your body. This chair’s frame isn’t rigid, and its edges are flexible so that you can sit in it for hours.
2. Herman Miller Aeron – Best Office Chair for Lower Back Pain
The Aeron by Herman Miller has been around since 1994. One of my colleagues own this chair, and he lets me work in it every time we research together. It is a good choice for people with chronic lower back pain, like me, because:It saves you from backaches. The SL curved backrest follows your natural spine curvature up to your glutes, to provide the anatomically correct support and improve your posture. Maintaining a healthy posture helps your spine and joints and diminishes any pain. It saves you from neck cramps and upper body stiffness. The armrests are supportive and adjustable in terms of height, depth, and pivoting. That way, the armrests can move with your movements, to provide dynamic assistance when you change positions. You can opt for extra back support if you have chronic back pain. For instance, you can choose a lumbar cushion or the PostureFit SL with eight pressure zones. It takes the pressure off your spine. The Aeron reclines with you thanks to its tension tilt, but there isn’t a tilt lock to secure the chair. You can also acquire the optional Forward Tilt feature if you’re always on your computer and need to bend forward over your keyboard. The Aeron sports several ergonomic adjustments. The armrests are easy to conform to your changing positions, but the Aeron chair doesn’t have seat depth or back height adjustments. The chair is breathable and supportive. The 8Z Pellicle mesh is a superior type of mesh fabric that’s very flexible and airy. However, the seat mesh is thin so that you might feel the chair’s frame. It is the most comfortable office chair that I’ve tried.
You can bet this chair will last you a lot. The Aeron comes with a 12-year warranty and 30-day money-back guarantee. The Aeron is sturdy. Its frame is made from steel, the parts are aluminum, and the mesh is patented. The chair’s parts aren’t generic, but specifically manufactured for the Aeron, so they fit together perfectly. The Aeron is eco-friendly. This chair is made from recycled and recyclable material, plus holds a GREENGUARD certification.
3. Steelcase Gesture Chair – Best Ergonomic & Stylish Office Chair
The Gesture is my favorite chair in the conference room.
It comes fully assembled so that you can use it right out of the box.It looks great. Although the Gesture has several plastic parts, the chair looks elegant, and it’s also solid. Besides, the metal mechanism on the back of the seat is covered in molded plastic to make the chair look better. Everyone can use it. The seat-height adjustment and armrest flexibility allow tall people to use it, plus the Gesture’s maximum allowed weight is 400 pounds. The seat is very supportive. Although its padding is under 2 inches and the seat feels firm, this type of seat provides ergonomic support and promotes a correct posture so that you can sit in it for 8-9 hours per day. It offers great backrest support. The Gesture has a tall backrest that doesn’t create pressure points because it’s flexible. However, the backrest’s adjustable lumbar assistance isn’t much, and there’s still a bit of recline to it when you lock it at 90ᵒ. The Gesture is highly adjustable. The 4-way adjustable arms pivot and can be adjusted in terms of height, depth, and width for extra arm and shoulder assistance. You can also adjust the tilt, seat depth, and seat-height, though there are no back height adjustments. The Gesture is eco-friendly. This chair uses recycled materials and is 85% recyclable, plus it has the SCS Gold Indoor Air Advantage and ANSI/ BIFMA Certifications.
4. Haworth Zody
My uncle, Tom, has sciatica, and he chose the Zody for his office because his therapist recommended it. Tom experiences sciatica pain on the left side of his body, and so Zody’s asymmetrical lumbar support is exactly what he needed.
Besides the Zody’s lower pelvic assistance is a unique feature that helps people with sciatica manage their pain.
You know it’s an ergonomic chair because it’s endorsed by the American Physical Therapy Association.
It helps with back pain because it has an S-shaped backrest that mimics your natural spine curvature, plus the asymmetrical lumbar support takes pressure away from your lower back. Another key feature that alleviates back pain is the lower pelvic comfort (PAL®) that keeps your pelvis aligned to your spine.
The chair is highly adjustable. The arms are four-way adjustable, and the seat features depth adjustments.
It’s breathable. The mesh back promotes airflow, so your back doesn’t get heated, and you can work for hours.
It’s eco-friendly. The Zody is 51% recyclable by weight, and it’s built with recycled materials.
The lower back and pelvic support are made from plastic, meaning they can break if you push them too much
The asymmetrical lumbar cushion which you can fix on the left or right side of your body
5. Steelcase Leap Fabric Chair - Best Office Chair with Lumbar Support
One of my friends has a Leap Fabric Office Chair and is very satisfied with it because it’s easy to adjust, and it has all sorts of patented technologies that promote a correct posture.
That’s exactly what my friend needs because she’s a web designer and can’t take scheduled breaks every 50 minutes, plus she needs to switch between devices. She chose the Leap because:It adjusts with your movements courtesy of the Live Lumbar technology that allows the chair to help with your correct posture regardless of your position. It takes the pressure off your spine because the Liveback backrest design mimics your natural spine curvature and so the Leap’s backrest adjusts its shape to fit your contours. The seat is supportive. Although it doesn’t have plush padding for cushiony comfort, the Leap’s seat is firm and supportive, forcing you to keep a correct posture, with your hips aligned to your spine. It encourages free movement. Thanks to its patented Natural Glide System, the Leap’s seat slides forward when you recline. Therefore, your eyes will always be pointing to the center of your screen, as it’s required by ergonomics experts, regardless of your position in the chair.
It’s highly adjustable. The Leap’s arms are width, depth, and height-adjustable, the seat is depth and height-adjustable, and you can also change the lower back firmness so the Leap can tilt more or less. Besides, you can change the position of the lumbar assistance, and all the knobs and levers are easy to reach.
It’s eco-friendly. The Leap is 98% recyclable, made with 30% recycled materials, and endorsed by Cradle to Cradle and SCS Indoor Advantage Certifications.
6. Herman Miller Sayl - Best Budget
Herman Miller Sayl is one of the most affordable ergonomic office chairs. It's a top office chair for under $500! The chair is durable and feature-packed, comfortable seat, breathable with f
My best friend from college recently bought a Sayl. Elaine liked that she could choose the perfect color for her office, and she also prefers the Sayl to my Embody because the Sayl looks more stylish and has a more cushiony seat pad.
It’s elegant, thanks to its organic and clean design. You can also get the right color for your office because of this chair sports color choices galore. It reclines to take pressure from your spine. There’s also a tilt limiter for extra security, but there are only three levels of incline you can choose from, the maximum being 124ᵒ. The chair is easy to adjust to your preference. Regardless of your body type and shape, you can fiddle with the adjustments to make the Sayl fit your body. You can change the seat height, the armrests’ height, width, depth, and angle, the tilt tension, the lumbar cushion’s height, and the angle of the forward tilt. The Sayl is comfortable. The backrest offers a fixed spinal support column, it’s made with breathable fabric, while the seat is thickly padded. It comes almost assembled, meaning you can use it quickly.
7. Alera Elusion Swivel - Good Minimalist Gaming Chair
I bought the Elusion for my nephew, who’s a passionate gamer, but he also uses this chair when he’s studying. He likes the assistance he’s getting, plus the fact that he can sit in it for hours.Backrest support. The Elusion has a higher backrest than other ergonomic office chairs for extra shoulder and head assistance. The S-shape seatback design takes the pressure off your spine, and the four-spoke frame distributes your weight correctly to eliminate pressure points. It’s breathable. The mesh material for this chair is breathable, albeit not as smooth as the Embody. It prevents muscle soreness and tightness. The chair has a functional design, with back assistance and two ribs on each side. This design is similar to Racecar seats, meaning you can sit down in the Alera for hours without any back pain. The seat is comfortable and promotes a great posture. The seat is thickly padded for extra comfort, but it’s also supportive. The Elusion allows multiple adjustments, including backrest height, seat height and depth, armrests’ height and depth, recline with tilt lock, and even forward tilt. This chair is for extensive writing and researching. That’s courtesy of the forward tilt because you tend to bend forward when you’re working, giving up the back support. However, the Alera tilts with you.
8. Serta Mid-Back Chair - Best Home Office Chair For Short Person
Serta is a respected brand in the world of mattresses, and that’s visible in the design of this chair. The chair is very comfortable and supportive. The deep and comfortable body pillows on the seat and backrest are the right amount of firm and cushiony. It offers constant lumbar support. The BIM active lumbar system moves when you move so your lower back is supported regardless of your position. The chair is smooth and supple, thanks to its bonded leather construction that looks elegant in any office. There is incorporated neck support, which you can use if you’re a petite person. The armrests are very comfortable because they’re padded and plush. These armrests areadjustable in terms of height, though there are no other adjustments available. It promotes a great posture. This chair’s unique selling proposition is the posture-correcting tilt technology, so your pelvis can tilt forward and not inward so that it can stay aligned to your spine, and you can avoid compressed disc issues.
9. Ergohuman Ergonomic Office by Eurotech
It’s easy to assemble it. You need 15 minutes. It has a great warranty, five years for the parts, and a lifetime for the frame. It doesn’t let your shoulders cramp because the arm pads are soft and flexible for prolonged periods of time writing or using the mouse. You can also adjust the arm on multiple positions (depth, height, and pivot).
10. Mid-Back Mesh Chair by Flash Furniture
I recently bought everyone in my office the Mid-Back Chair by Flash Furniture because:This chair offers good lumbar support thanks to a built-in lumbar cushion and a backrest design with ribs, similar to that of racecars for prolonged hours sitting down. The chair is breathable because the mesh back promotes air circulation. The seat is comfortable because it’s padded, it has a waterfall edge that takes pressure from your hamstrings, and it’s covered with supple leather called LeatherSoft. The armrests are comfortable because they’re well padded, but they can also be flipped back. The chair tilts to take pressure from your spine, but you can also change the tension of this tilt or lock it into position. It’s durable thanks to its heavy-duty nylon base that also moves easily.
11. Viva Office Mesh Chair (Under $300)
It’s easy to install in under 15 minutes thanks to its comprehensive instructions.
It’s a sturdy chair because it’s made from top materials. It sports good overall support thanks to an adjustable headrest, an S-shape mesh backrest that’s flexible and accommodates the natural shape of your spine, and a concave seat with plush padding. 12. Ticova Office Chair
This is a chair that shouldn’t be ignored. While not necessarily the thinnest or lightest desk chair around, the Ticova is nevertheless a big step up from the typical office chair. The custom stitching design gives it the signature look that regular office chairs are lacking. With just $300 dollars, you can give your office a breath of fresh air.
Ticova is a nice chair if you want something that won't break the bank, but it has certain limitations. The Ticova, for example, lacks a reclining option. I've been searching for a solution to the chronic discomfort I get after long sessions on the computer. Most likely, it's due to my oddly shaped backside that uses a different blood circulation system than that of most people, but the search hasn't been an easy one.
I've tried quite a few products that promise to help with the problem, most of which are pricey and ugly. So, I was pleased when I came across Ticova, the Ergonomic Computer standing desks. As the name implies, it is ergonomically designed to assist the body in order to prevent posture-related health issues. The Chair was first released in Europe and the United States two years ago. At that time, it looked more like a torture device than a tool. It had a single lever for the back assistance, no tilt, and a recline option, and the molded foam padding was somewhat hard.
Today, Ticova's casing is significantly improved. The remote and wheel lever work well, the tilt and recline options are present and work, and the back support has a fabric covering. The hard plastic cover of the old has been replaced by a plush version that feels nice on your back.
About Sihoo Ergonomic Office Chair - Bonus
Although the auto-adjusting seat makes adjusting your backside easy, there's little that looks like a safety feature. You need to just jump back in after you sit down, and push down to reduce the lumbar support, which is a little more pronounced than most other office chairs. There's a smartphone holder on the back of the chair, which can be pulled up and down to reach a pocket or the microSD memory card slot. This works OK and has the added bonus of hanging a USB drive – although a better design for a mobile phone would have been to put a slot on the back of the chair so that a mobile phone could be secured in it.
The motorized lumbar assist doesn't adjust outwards, but only inward, so again it's a case of having to get on with the job in hand, and then adjust the back slightly for more assist. It's a minor complaint, but we do wonder whether this design works because it's built into the body of the chair, rather than built into the adjusters. We tried folding the chair back and found this function to be very useful for getting the chair out of the car boot. To do this, you place it in front of you and stand on the one side, while you hold the chair away from you on the other, then guide it out of the boot and down the hall using your hand. Unlike some of the other office chairs we've tested, Sihoo is only available in black. It's quite a plain chair. There's a ridge of beveled plastic running down the middle of the back of the seat and seat base.

Final words on Best Office Chairs. Which Model To Choose?
All the chairs in this review are ergonomic and good. The Miller Aeron chair is good for general back pain, although the Zody is better for sciatica, and the Serta Mid-Back is good against compressed disc pain.
The Steelcase Gesture looks stylish, while Steelcase Leap is so dynamically supportive, you won’t feel the need to get up from your computer.
The Alera Elusion is a value-for-money chair if you’re sitting down for hours, while the Mid-Back Chair by Flash Furniture is the top affordable choice.
However, the Herman Miller Embody is my top choice.
This chair promotes good posture, it’s been designed by expert therapists and scientists, and frankly, sitting in it feels like floating. The Embody reunites various technologies, from its Pixelated support mesh to evenly distribute weight, to the Backfit adjustment that mimics your natural spine curvature, or the four-seat layers to contour your buttocks and hamstrings.
The Embody offers a decent range of ergonomic adjustments, it sports three assistance zones to align your shoulders, spine, and pelvis and doesn’t dig into your body.
The Embody is the epitome of flexibility and support. Don’t risk back pain and discomfort that messes with your productivity, and get it now.
